YINA Facial Gua Sha Guide

While facial Gua Sha is one of the most popular natural skin care rituals currently,  we wouldn’t call it a trend because this traditional Chinese healing technique has a rich and long history.

Benefits of Gua Sha

There are a myriad of reasons to fall in love with facial Gua Sha and they are the very reasons why women around the world are incorporating this scraping technique in their daily skincare routine.  Before you assume the amazing results are just skin-deep, facial Gua Sha has holistic healing benefits that are beyond beauty.

Facial Gua Sha can easily and non-invasively:

  • Tones the facial muscles to improve skin tone and texture
  • Improves lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness
  • Boosts blood and ‘Qi’ circulation for better glowing skin
  • Allows skincare products to penetrate the skin more effectively
  • Relieves tension in the head, face and neck

Mental Wellness Benefits

Facial Gua Sha can break down tension, promote blood circulation and improve the flow of energy, making it the perfect self-care treatment that can be administered from the comfort of your home.  Furthermore, Gua Sha’s firm but soothing scraping is like a gentle massage on the meridian points on the face, head and neck.  This can effectively lift you out of a stressful moment and help you refocus on the here and now.

FACIAL GUA SHA TECHNIQUE

Step 1

Cleanse and prep your skin with a facial oil, serum or balm of your choice to ensure there is enough slip to allow for the tool to glide effortlessly on the skin.

Step 2

Proceed to Gua Sha using the recommended technique below:
Hold tool against skin ~ 30 degree angle. Use light to medium pressure. Use one direction to glide on the skin.

Guasha from middle of face slightly upwards and to- ward hairline. On the forehead area, guasha from brow upwards, toward scalp. Apply some pressure in the hairline. Apply and hold pressure on appropriate points. (May also guasha the scalp area to enhance the ritual).

Guasha on jawline and chin area towards ear lobes. Guasha over the same area for 5 to 10x before moving to other areas.  Repeat on the other side.

The session should last between 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3

Continue with the rest of your skincare routine, then take a moment to observe how relaxed your skin feels.

Clean your Gua Sha stone with a gentle soap to thoroughly remove any facial product residue.  Pat it dry with a clean towel.

How Often Should You Gua Sha?

Daily.  Facial Gua Sha should be done every morning so that you’ll look your best for the rest of the day.  We also recommend an evening Gua Sha to promote relaxation at the end of the day.  Much like why you would cleanse and prep your skin every day, having daily facial Gua Sha can help to revitalize your skin for long-term benefits.

Facial Gua Sha Contraindications

While facial Gua Sha is a natural and safe practice, anyone with hyper-sensitive skin or those having serious breakouts and skin inflammation should avoid administering facial Gua Sha. Importantly, avoid Gua Sha if you have recently received filler or Botox injections.
